Driving under the influence of alcohol can have serious and sometimes tragic consequences. No matter the circumstances, drunk driving is considered a serious crime. DUI and DWI accidents are the leading cause of fatal car accidents each year.  The legal blood alcohol level that a driver must have in order to operate a vehicle is below 0.08% in every state in the U.S.

A driver convicted of DUI, even with a first time offense, can spend years in jail, face heavy fines, many hours of community service, loss of insurance and even face paying reparation and damages to victims and their families.
