Father Killed While Trick or Treating, Son Injured

A father was killed and his 4-year old son critically injured when they were both struck by a vehicle while trick-or-treating in Irvine on Halloween. John Alcorn, 65, had been escorting his young son who was wearing a Captain America costume when the two were struck by a woman driving a Mazda 3 in the 100 block of West Yale Loop at 7:10 p.m. Friday.

According to the Orange County Coroner’s Office, Alcorn was rushed to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead at 8:36 p.m. Friday. Alcorn’s son was listed in critical condition.

The female driver of the vehicle immediately stopped at the scene and was not initially charged.
