Finish the Ride Event Raises Awareness about Bicycle Accidents

images (1)A large crowd of cyclists and walkers came out in support of the Finish the Ride event in Los Angeles on Sunday morning. The focus of the Finish the Ride campaign is to emphasize the importance of sharing the road to motorists.

The campaign is especially important to cyclist Damian Kevitt. In a previous cycling event, Kevitt was struck and dragged hundreds of feet before the vehicle sped off. As a result of the accident, Kevitt had to have one of his legs amputated. Kevitt began the Finish the Ride movement in order to make drivers “be aware of the fact that you are responsible for the other people around you.”  He feels that the movement has made some drivers more aware, but change can be a long process. He also says that he is thankful so many more people are taking part in the event to raise awareness and make the streets safer for everyone.
