Hit and Run Driver Hits Cyclist in South LA

249139424_8f45164d55_mA bicyclist in Los Angeles has been struck and killed by a hit and run driver in South Los Angeles.  The driver is still at large.

According to Los Angeles Police Department officials, the hit-and-run accident happened at the intersection of Slauson Avenue and San Pedro Place at approximately 8:25 p.m. on Sunday.

The victim, Manuel Enrique Mendoza-Hernandez, 22, of Los Angeles had been riding his bicycle westbound along the Slauson Avenue sidewalk east of San Pedro Place when he suddenly veered off of the sidewalk into the path of a vehicle that was making a right turn onto Slauson Avenue from San Pedro Place. Mendoza-Hernandez was knocked onto the pavement then run over by the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, possibly a Toyota Corolla, fled the scene of the fatal accident, heading eastbound on Slauson Avenue.

There were no known witnesses to the accident, however debris retrieved from the scene identified the suspect vehicle as possibly being a Toyota Corolla. Police are still seeking the driver and the public’s help in apprehending them.

Who can predict when or where an accident can happen?  The chance of being seriously injured by no fault of your own can be devastating to both accident victims and to their families.
