Officer and Bystander Heroes for Saving Man’s Life

downloadIt was a heroic act on the part of both a Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy and a bystander when they pulled an unconscious man from his burning vehicle after it struck a pole in Victorville early Friday morning. They saved the man’s life.

Authorities say that Deputy Asiah Medawar responded to reports of a crash near Hook Boulevard and El Evado Road around 4;00 a.m. Deputy Medawar arrived on the scene to find a man who had driven his vehicle into a utility pole and had slid partially under the dashboard as the result of the accident’s impact. The man was unconscious and the passenger side of the vehicle had caught fire.

Medawar was assisted by an unidentified bystander and together they were able to free the driver from the wreckage of the vehicle and drag him a safe distance away. The car became completely engulfed in flames just minutes after the man had been pulled from his vehicle.

The man, whose name has not been released, sustained severe burns to his right hand and was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office is still currently investigating the exact cause of the crash.
