download (98)A woman has been arrested after her toddler daughter walked into a room holding a loaded handgun and pointed it at police. It was later discovered that the gun had been stolen from a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy. Kimberly Torres, 20 of San Bernardino, was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment likely to produce bodily injury and possession of stolen property.

On May 7, an off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy’s car was broken into while he was in a business at West Valley Street and North Stoddard Avenue.  Two handguns were reported as having been stolen. A San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy made a traffic stop on a car owned by Torres but driven by Ramon Quintero, 25 of San Bernardino, in the 2600 block of East Third Street later that same day. Upon searching the vehicle, the sheriff’s deputy found one of the two stolen firearms.

Later detectives went to Torres’ residence to speak to her about the incident.  During the investigation, Torres’ 3-year-old daughter walked out of the bedroom with a black semi-automatic pistol, and pointed it toward the officers. Detectives took the loaded weapon from the toddler.  Upon examination, they found that it was the second weapon that had been stolen.

Torres was arrested and booked into the Central Detention center. Torres’ daughter has been placed in the care of Child and Family Services.
