The Los Angeles City Fire Department reports that emergency crews were sent to Terminal 7 departures area on Sunday.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 67-year-old male driver of a 2015 Porsche Panamera struck a 7-year-old female pedestrian who was standing on the curb at the terminal with members of her family when the vehicle jumped the curb, struck a baggage cart and smashed into the wall of a utility room at the terminal.

The young girl, believed to be the child of an airport employee, was transported to an area hospital for treatment for a cracked skull and bleeding in her brain. The 7-year-old’s condition is still listed as critical. Her name has not been released.

The driver of the Porsche and his passenger were transported and treated for non-life threatening injuries.  They were listed in good condition.

According to L.A. City Fire spokesperson Brian Humphrey, the young girl is the daughter of an airline employee.

Initial investigations indicate that it is likely that the driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake while dropping off a passenger at the United Airlines area of the terminal.

Police indicate that the accident is still currently under investigation.
