TSA Officer Shot at LAX, Lawsuit Filed

Workers at airports in metropolitan areas are oftentimes overwhelmed with responsibilities of the job. Thousands of air travelers require speedy service to ensure that their flights don’t leave the ground without them, and it’s the job of the airport employee to make sure ticket holders are onboard when their flights depart. Working as an employee at a busy airport is difficult.

Sometimes, though, working at the airport can be dangerous. And deadly.

Transportation Security Administration Officer Gerardo Hernandez was shot and killed November 1 at Los AngelesInternationalAirport by a lone gunman who targeted TSA officers. Three other people at the airport were also injured. A law firm filed a $25 million claim on behalf of the Hernandez family against the city of LA.

The claim reportedly alleges that both the city of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles World Airports botched the training and supervision of airport personnel. The suit also contends that urgent medical care was unnecessarily delayed to Hernandez.

It’s unlikely that tragic circumstances will occur during your next visit to the local airport. Yet there is legal recourse and help available if some unforeseen situation does happen.
